PSHE and RSHE

At Maidensbridge, we value the important role that parents and carers play in their children's education. Following our recent consultation on Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE), we would like to thank all families who took the time to review the curriculum and share their feedback.

The consultation provided an opportunity for parents and carers to explore the proposed content, ask questions, and contribute their views. Feedback received has helped inform our planning and has been taken into consideration as we implement our 2026 RSHE curriculum.

Our updated curriculum has been carefully designed to support pupils' personal development, wellbeing, emotional literacy, healthy relationships, and understanding of how to stay safe in an ever-changing world. Learning will continue to be delivered in an age-appropriate and sensitive manner, reflecting the needs of our pupils and the values of our school community.

We are grateful for the positive engagement from families and look forward to continuing to work together to ensure all children receive high-quality RSHE education.

What some parents said,

"Thank for you facilitating the RSHE consultation sessions with parents. Having no prior knowledge of this part of the curriculum or the policy I felt that this was very informative. The messages to be delivered felt age appropriate and as a parent it was useful to be guided through how these topics are gently introduced in reception to the youngest pupils and then continue to expand into age specific topics as the children get older. It was useful to see the learning materials used and topics will be delivered so that parents can appropriately respond to any questions that children ask at home in line with the teaching. Lastly, having received the updated policy I found it really reassuring that this reflects topics such as mental wellbeing, respectful relationships, and online safety, reflecting real issues." Sarah Hunt

"I attended the PSHE meeting last week as I wanted to know more about the things my daughter would be taught in Reception and throughout school. I was apprehensive at first as she's so young to learn about these topics but the meeting absolutely put my mind at ease. It was really informative and helpful and I feel much better about the subjects they will cover and how it will be taught in a sensitive and age appropriate way. One suggestion I have, along with the idea of bereavement that was mentioned in the meeting, is maybe touching on certain illnesses like cancer and coping mechanisms to deal with family members going through things like that. I'm thinking more the older years obviously. It's just an idea!!" Anna Hackett

"When receiving the email I went into a bit of 'panic' mode so booked to attend the meeting. Once I realised and understood it was taught on an age appropriate basis I felt relieved. The meeting was very informative and answered any questions I'd got. The videos and slideshows used were good, simple and to the point. The examples of work left out for us to view were helpful and I am now happy for my child to continue with the lessons set out." Sam Ross
