Trip to ‘Sarehole Mill’ – Friday 9th June 2023
We would like to take Year 5 on an educational visit this term as part of our UK geography topic looking at Rivers. For this trip, we will be leaving at 8.10am (to allow the children to get the most out of the day) and returning to school before 3.15pm. Drop off will be at the main office at 8am please.
Sarehole Mill is a 250 year old watermill near Birmingham. Whilst there. we will receive a talk on the history of the mill and how water power is used. Then, we will follow the journey of the water from the mill pond to the River Cole. There will be fieldwork experiments and children will enter the river (if conditions allow).
We will be travelling by coach and ask for a voluntary contribution of £18.60 towards the cost of the coach and entrance fee into Sarehole Mill. As always, we do ask for parents and carers help towards the cost of this. Without your voluntary contributions there will be the possibility that the trip will not be able to go ahead.
Children must wear suitable clothing and shoes. Wellies are essential. We recommend trousers/shorts that will dry quickly if wet and a t-shirt with a fleece/hoodie layer. A spare change of socks and shoes will be needed. Please ensure that your child has sun cream on ahead of arrival at school. Additionally, the children will need to bring a small rucksack or bag with the following items:
- A packed lunch
- 2 drinks
- A sunhat
- A waterproof layer (even if sunny on the day of the visit)
- A spare change of socks and shoes.
- A carrier bag to place wet wellies in.
Should it be raining on the day of the trip, then it will still be going ahead so please ensure that your child has the appropriate outer clothing for the weather.
If your child requires medication whilst out on the visit, please fill in the appropriate forms in the office and send the medication on the day in a sealed bag/envelope with their name on.
There is also a goody bag avaliable to pre-order for your child containing a Sarehole pen and torch in a bag, for a cost of £2.00.
Please complete the form to give permission for your child to attend and to advise if you would like to purchase a goody bag by Monday 15th May.
Please make payment for the trip on SchoolMoney by Monday 5th June. A separate payment will be set up for the goody bag on SchoolMoney and we will advise you once this is available.
If you have any further questions, please do let us know.
