Mrs Christine Quinton - Chair of Governors

I was initially elected as a parent governor 27 years ago when my 2 daughters attended Maidensbridge, and I am now a co-opted member of the Board serving as Chair since September 2016. My early career was in banking and I spent many years as a branch manager of Leeds PBS before taking a career break to support my children's early development. During this time I became a childminder and ran 2 toddlers groups in the village at the Church of the Ascension and Maidensbridge. On returning to work I joined a school office and held the position of School Business Manager for 14 years before retiring 6 years ago. My previous role has given me the knowledge and skills to support and challenge the Headteacher and an appreciation of the many issues facing schools in the present uncertain financial climate and introduction of new government initiatives. I have 100% attendance and regularly attend local authority training to keep my knowledge and understanding up to date, I sit on all the board committees and have the additional responsibility for monitoring the progress of special needs pupils. Being a governor is becoming more challenging, but is very rewarding, particularly visiting the school seeing the pupils hard at work and enjoying their learning. I am

passionate about primary education, a good early start enables children to progress, become confident. Together with Mrs Green I have undertaken work in the school library to improve access to reference material and support the loaning of fiction books to pupils. For the last 3 years I have liaised with Chairs of Governors from 3 local primary schools to share good practice, and regularly attend Local Authority Chair's meetings to ensure I am fully aware of developments in Education.
