Mrs Rebecca Churchman - Local Authority Governor

As a Mom with 2 young children I can fully relate to other parents and say "they are the centre of my world and I want nothing but the best for them". When I was not much older than my son, my Reception teacher once asked; "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Whilst, some questions I may have had to think about, this one I knew the answer to, my reply; "A teacher"; I was just 4 years old. 19 years later I realised that ambition and had a reception class of my very own. To date, I have been lucky enough to work in education for 15 years and throughout this time I have fulfilled many different roles. As a newly qualified teacher, I spent five years working at a large school in Sedgley, where I put theory into practice and became a skilled teacher. Yearning for challenge, I then continued my career at a smaller school in Brierley Hill, where I took up the position of Foundation Stage Leader. This was a change as it involved thinking strategically beyond my own classroom and leading a team.

Whilst at this school, I also became a governor and joined the curriculum and school improvement teams. Alongside these roles, I decided to broaden my career further and I was successful in becoming a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE). I was keen to pursue this as it involved me working both inside and outside the borough providing support for schools, helping them to evaluate their effectiveness and strategically plan for improvement. For the last 4 years, I have moved into senior leadership and I am now the Assistant Headteacher of a large school in Dudley which is part of a multi-academy trust. Keen to continue with my governorship, I am also an associate governor for a different school within our trust. Aside from my own school and governor responsibilities, I am keen to join the Maidensbridge governor board as I know it is highly regarded within the local area and I look forward to bringing my experience of education and leadership to benefit the school in the future.
